GRADE 2 · ALBERTAOUTCOME AB-G2-2T1
L4 · Days, weeks, months, and years
Learning goal
“I can change between days and weeks and between months and years, and I can compare a duration given in weeks with one given in days or months.”
Day — the time from one morning to the next. Days are counted in dates on a calendar.
Week — a group of 7 days. A week is always 7 days long.
Month — one of the 12 parts of a year. Months have 28 to 31 days.
Year — 12 months. One year is the time from one birthday to the next.
Worked example
How many days are in 2 weeks? Step 1: One week is a strip of 7 days. Step 2: Two weeks is two strips: 7 + 7. Step 3: 7 + 7 = 14. So 2 weeks = 14 days. Say it plainly: to change weeks into days, add 7 for each week.
Check yourself — explain it
Why is 2 weeks NOT 10 days?
Paired problem — example still visible
How many days are in 2 weeks and 1 more day? -> 15 days
Faded completion — last step is yours
"1 week = 7 days, so 2 weeks = 7 + ___ = ___ days." -> 7; 14
