GRADE 1 · ALBERTAOUTCOME AB-G1-1ST1
L3 · Building a concrete graph together
Learning goal
“I can build a concrete graph with real things in rows, and I can read it.”
Concrete graph — a graph made with real things, like cubes or shoes.
Row — things lined up side by side.
Compare — to look at two things and say how they are the same or different.
Worked example
Our data: sun 3, rain 2. Step 1: We make a row for sun. We put down one cube for each answer: 3 cubes. Step 2: We make a row for rain: 2 cubes. Step 3: Both rows start at the SAME line. Now the rows are fair to compare. Say it plainly: one object for one answer, and every row starts at the same line.
Check yourself — explain it
Why must the rows start at the same line?
Paired problem — example still visible
Build in words: cats 4, dogs 4. How many cubes go in each row? -> 4 cubes in the cats row and 4 cubes in the dogs row
Faded completion — last step is yours
"In a concrete graph, one cube stands for one ___." -> answer
