L5 · Distance: how far between places we know

Learning goal

“I can talk about how far it is between places I know. I can say which place is nearer or farther.”

Distance — how far it is from one place to another place.
Far — a long way away.
Near — a short way away; close.
Between — in the middle of two places or things.
Worked example

Sam sits at his desk. Step 1: From Sam's desk to the door is a short way. The door is near his desk. Step 2: From Sam's desk to the window is a long way, all across the room. The window is far from his desk. Step 3: Say it: the distance from the desk to the door is shorter. The distance from the desk to the window is longer. Say it plainly: distance is the length between two places. Near means a short distance. Far means a long distance.
