GRADE 2 · ALBERTAOUTCOME AB-G2-2N1

L5 · Ordering numbers: clinic

Learning goal

“I can put numbers in order from least to greatest and from greatest to least.”

Order — to line numbers up by their size, one after another.
Least to greatest — an order that starts with the number that is least and grows.
Greatest to least — an order that starts with the number that is greatest and shrinks.
Worked example

Order 34, 43, 29 from least to greatest. Step 1: Compare the tens: 3 tens, 4 tens, 2 tens. Step 2: The fewest tens is 2, so 29 is least. Next is 34 (3 tens), then 43 (4 tens). Step 3: 29, 34, 43.

Check yourself — explain it

Why does 29 go first?

Paired problem — example still visible
